Lock
up for safety

Have you ever questioned if the residential halls were safe? Students
currently living in the residence halls may be wondering what
they will encounter next.
“The
University Police Department over the past few days has received
several reports of individuals entering unlocked residence
hall rooms committing the following types of crimes: Deviate
Sexual Assault, Burglary, and Trespass,” police clery release
said.
Every year,
thousands of students reside in the residential halls of MU.
Students may feel safe but know not to take things
for granted.
There have
been instances where male subjects have walked into rooms left
unlocked or unattended. The men have been
seen walking
into women’s restrooms where girls are taking showers.
The men typically leave the shower areas when the women
confront them.
“You
wouldn’t expect it, I take everything for granted! It’s
weird to know people could wonder in,” Jessie Rush
(a resident of Discovery Hall) said.
The words, “Be
sure to lock up,” are
posted on signs everywhere in the residential halls.
The University Police
Department is providing notices to keep the MU community alert
about the crimes occurring
on campus
and asking
for assistance in identifying the persons who are
taking part in these crimes.
“Makes
you worry … you don’t think it could happen to
you, but it obviously can. It doesn’t make
me feel unsafe, it just makes me check things twice
now,” Rush
said.
Anyone with information
on these incidents, others crimes, and/or suspicious activity
should contact
the University
Police Department
at 573-882-7201.
