The National
Agriculture Future of America Leaders Conference will take place
Nov. 3-6 at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center in Kansas City,
Mo.
The
AFA Leaders Conference is designed to give college agriculture
students professional and personal advancement opportunities. The
conference is split into three “tracks” according to
year in school.
- Track 1, for
freshmen, is designed to improve personal planning skills.
- Track 2,
for sophomores/juniors, is for those who have completed Track
1 at a previous conference. This Track has a greater emphasis
on communications skills.
- Track 3,
for juniors/seniors, is aimed at preparing you to work in a
global economy.
“The
caliber of presenters at the conference is very high. They
get some great leaders in the industry to come and speak at the
convention,” Andrew Brandt, a senior agribusiness management
major and AFA participant said.
Brandt
is also a member of a student advisory team, one of only 12 members
from the entire midwest that helps organize the conference.
Cory Robinson,
a senior agribusiness management major, has participated in the
conference and has really enjoyed his experience
“I
would recommend the conference to anyone,” Robinson said. “They
teach networking and business, and really apply it to agriculture
and get you ready for a job.”
CAFNR
offers four scholarships to those who attend the AFA conference,
two for first-time attendees and two for those who have attended
the conference in the past. The Hayes Family trust will make
two additional scholarships available to anyone who attends the
conference. Members of the AFA Alliance have also set aside
portions of their dues this year and taken additional donations
to sponsor delegates returning this year to the conference in honor
of Brian E. Perry, active volunteer and husband of Kris Perry,
AFA executive assistant.
