Football Tigers sign NFL contracts April 27, 2004 - By Monday night, six Mizzou football players had signed NFL contracts with four different teams. They will report to their respective mini-camps Thursday as they prepare to try and make the cut into professional football. Offensive Lineman Rob Droege signed a deal with the Chicago Bears shortly after the draft ended Sunday night. Center A.J. Ricker and running back Zack Abron also signed deals with the Bears on Monday. Others to sign pro deals were linebacker Brandon Barnes with the Baltimore Ravens, cornerback Michael Harden with the Seattle Seahawks, and defensive lineman Russ Bell with the Kansas City Chiefs. Zack Abron will go into Bears camp trying out for fullback and tailback and has a legitimate shot at seeing playing time if he makes the team. The Bears only running back last year to rush for over 200-yards was their starter, Anthony Thomas. Abron commented to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about being signed,
""I feel really good about it," Abron said. "Playing
football is something I love to do, and now I have a chance to make
a living at it. It's always been my goal to play in the National Football
League." (www.stltoday.com)
