Do you know Truman?

Margy Fischer, Corner Post staff

Sept. 22, 2002 - Have you ever had the feeling that you knew who was in the Truman the Tiger suit? Well, someone from the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) is one of the five current Truman the Tiger mascots.

A couple of years ago, the CAFNR student who is now Truman said, "I'm gonna be him some day," while attending an MU event. And he followed through on that statement.

"To become Truman, students must go through an audition, which includes an interview with the Spirit Squad coaches and performing multiple dance routines, all while wearing the suit," Greg Herring, Assistant Director of Marketing Mizzou Department of Athletics, said. "Appearance is everything!"

According to our CAFNR friend, it's easy for the person playing Truman to lose between three and five pounds during hot weather.

"It's hot - that's it," the CAFNR student said. "It's hot!"

The Truman from CAFNR has already appeared at promotional events, parades and football games and will receive one hour of fine arts credit.

"I want to be Truman for as long as I am here," the mystery student said. "I was born a tiger, and I'll die a tiger."
