Oct.
7, 2002 - Hundreds of Missouri high school students flocked to
MU on Oct. 7 to check out the College of Agriculture, Food and
Natural Resources (CAFNR) for Preview Mizzou. This annual event
allows high school students to speak with professors and students
and to tour the campus.

Prospective
CAFNR student Keith Deimeke said that Preview Mizzou was, "a
good experience to see what MU has to offer."
Students were
greeted with folders full of information and a table loaded down
with doughnuts and juice when they arrived between 8 and 9 a.m.
Tuesday. Vice Chancellor and Dean Tom Payne and Assistant Dean
Jim Spain both gave welcoming addresses. Spain also succeeded
in getting a rousing "MIZ
ZOU!" cheer out of the
students.
Students and
their parents were then split up into three different groups.
The largest group went to the Round Table discussions first, where
they chose majors that interested them and spoke to the professors.
They talked about course requirements and different possible career
paths for graduates.
"The Round
Table discussions were my favorite activity, because you got to
go in depth with the majors," Nicki Deimeke, prospective
CAFNR student, said.
Some students
did not like the Round Tables so well.
"There
were too many people," Hillary Schowe said. "I could
hardly hear."
Next, the group
attended the Student Life Panel, where they asked questions and
picked up additional information from admissions, financial aid,
residential life, study abroad and CAFNR student activities representatives.
The students
then took a campus tour given by a CAFNR student ambassador. They
learned about the landmarks and rich history of Mizzou, as well
as where they might have classes next year.

When they returned
to Memorial Union, the students quickly filled out their surveys
in order to get their Preview Mizzou T-shirts.
During the
closing session, Kristen Ellis, co-chair of Preview Mizzou, quizzed
the students about what they had learned. She rewarded them with
prizes, such as candy jars and CAFNR caps. Associate Dean Paul
Vaughn gave a closing speech encouraging the students to come
back and see Mizzou again.
