student wins MSA presidency
Michael Deering, Corner Post staff
Nov. 14, 2002 - More than 30 students
gathered at Jesse Hall at 9 p.m. Wednesday to hear results of
the Missouri Students Association election.
Brett Ordnung, ag education major,
and Lisa Coleman, political science major, waited nervously to
find out if their month of campaigning for MSA president and vice
president had paid off.
Shortly after 9 p.m., the MSA
election committee announced the unofficial results. The crowd
cheered when Ordnung was announced as the new MSA president.
To win the election, the slate
must obtain 35 percent of the votes or there would be another
election between the top two slates. Ordnung and Coleman received
39.2 percent of the votes, making them the winners.
"I knew he could do it,"
J.D. McGaugh, ag business major, said. "His heart was in
the right place."
It was later announced that there
were more than 4,000 voters in the election, which is the third
largest voter turnout ever.
Ordnung - excited CAFNR student
and new MSA president - shook hands, gave out hugs, and began
his life in politics.
"I am extremely excited and,
well - speechless," Ordnung said.
