Kemp
to head judging program

Oct.
2, 2002 - Livestock judging team members are preparing for a successful
new season with new head coach David "Chip" Kemp. The
judging members said they are judging and learning every Saturday
and are excited for the upcoming year.
Fourteen judging
members are vying for positions on the team, and all of the members
have different levels of experience.
"Experience
doesn't matter as much as effort," Kemp said.
Kemp said he
is excited to have the privilege to coach such an enthusiastic
group of individuals. He also said
he has a much better feeling about the program this year compared
to some years in the past.
"I feel
that the alumni and administration have come together much stronger
this year to support the program," Kemp said. "Without
support from the alumni and the administration, this program would
simply go nowhere."
Judging members
will compete on the national level against competitive teams,
such as Kansas State, Texas A&M, Michigan State and several
other universities throughout the United States. Members will
compete at Denver, Colo., the Iowa Beef Expo, the Express Ranches
contests and other contests this spring.
Kemp stresses
that livestock judging is not just for animal science majors but
also for individuals that want to enhance their decision-making,
public speaking and thinking skills.
"This
is a good form of competition that truly benefits the student,"
Kemp said.
Kemp also encourages
any interested individuals to contact him.
