Forestry
Club sells Christmas trees,
raises scholarship money

- MU's Forestry Club held a Christmas tree sale last weekend at
Faurot Field. The annual sale, which is traditionally the club's
only fund-raising activity, provides money for scholarships for
forestry students and a trip to a forestry convention.
The Forestry
Club expects to raise approximately $5,000 a year from the sale
and might receive additional money from alumni of the forestry
program. Alumni also donate Christmas trees for the club to sell,
but most of the trees are grown by the club on its tree farm southwest
of Columbia.
Club members
also sold wreaths, walnuts and pine bundles.
The club charged $4 per foot for trees less than 8½ feet
tall and $5 per foot for trees more than 8½ feet tall.
Many customers said they felt this was standard pricing for Christmas
tree retail.
Bill and Brenda
McCallister, who shopped at the Christmas tree sale, said they
were looking for a certain size of Christmas tree. They have a
new granddaughter and said they needed a small tree that they
could put on top of something and keep out of her reach.
