Rural
Sociology Club sponsors Farmers' Market

Sept.
22, 2002 - Students have the opportunity to learn more about where
their food comes Wednesday at the second Farmers' Market sponsored
by Rural Sociology Club.
The
first event was held on Sept. 11 outside of Memorial Union. The
second will be held at the same location.
"I
thought the event went off very well and was very well received,"
Rural Sociology Club President Crystal Haile said. "We have
received lots of questions and positive input about our event,
and I believe our first day was a success."
The
vendors at the event will be participants in the Columbia Farmers'
Market on Saturdays. All products that will be sold are grown
or made by the vendors.
The
goal of these events is to build a stronger connection between
MU and the people of rural surrounding areas. The club hopes to
illustrate where food comes from and that there is an alternative
to the grocery store.
"I
believe such events as this can be a learning experience for the
entire campus," Haile said. "More people need to know
where their food comes from and how it is grown."
The
group hopes to continue the market in the spring and fall of each
year.
