for students, despite delays

- In spite of the absence of some furniture and many boxes of
files, the Dickinson Student Achievement Center is open for business.
The newly renovated facility is located in the Ag Building, in
room 2-64.
"We are
thrilled to have the Center open and available for students,"
said Paul Vaughn,
Associate Dean of Academic Programs for the College of Agriculture,
Food and Natural Resources. "Comments I have received from
the students have been extremely positive, and they are proud
to have an area that not only effectively meets the academic/career
needs of students but is extremely attractive as well."
Vaughn said
he and his team of DSAC facilitators anticipate having distance
education equipment for video conferencing, computers for accessing
career information and a wealth of information available to students
on topics that range from resume preparation to enhancing leadership
skills.
The new facility
is also stimulating excitement in the Academic Programs area.
For example, the Academic Programs Office is working with CAFNR
Student Council to design a process that will evaluate the effectiveness
of career placement activities. The APO will also be working with
academic advisers and others to identify ways to change the advising
process.
"If things
go according to plan
and we can get through the unboxing
stage
you will see a number of new and exciting things coming
out of the Dickinson Student Achievement Center," Vaughn
said.
The formal
dedication will be Feb. 5. For more information, stop by the Academic
Programs Office or watch for postings and e-mails.
