Sept. 30, 2002
- College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR) students,
faculty and staff took the Blue Note by storm in downtown Columbia
for Skit Nite, part of Ag Week 2002, on Sept. 30.
Before the
doors opened, students lined the sidewalk outside, ready to watch
their fellow students in action.
The event featured skits from 12 CAFNR organizations, as well
as lip sync performances from Ag Week King and Queen candidates.
More than 425 people came to see the skits and fun - an increase
from last year, Ag Week tri-director Justin Roberts said, basing
his estimate on the 250 pre-sold tickets and ticket receipts from
the door.
KCLR/99.3 FM
morning show host Carrie Cowgill and sophomore agricultural education
major Crystal Matthews emceed the event.

elements for royalty candidates. The
team featured Kueker leaping off the

and giving some special dancing
attention to the skit night judges. |
Organization
members showed their pride for CAFNR through their
skits by using humor and incorporating news stories associated
with CAFNR, its faculty and its students. Many organizations performed
spoofs of television shows, such as Real World, the Crocodile
Hunter, and Jeopardy.
Josh Phillips,
tri-chair of the contest committee, said the increased audience
size was due to good promotions by his fellow steering committee
members as well as the "increase in CAFNR organizations participating
in Ag Week this year."
The new participants were the Agriculture Learning Community,
located on the first floor of Schurz Hall, and Farm House fraternity,
which began competing in Ag Week again this year.
Six people
- all CAFNR faculty, staff or alumni - served as judges for the
skits and lip syncs. They judged the skits based on time, originality,
preparedness and professionalism of actors.
The winner
was announced at the Barnwarming dance Oct. 4, and the Agricultural
Communicators of Tomorrow - the defending champions - claimed
the prize again.
