Serving It Up at a New Location

Oct.
1, 2002 - College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (CAFNR)
students competed in the Ag Week Volleyball Tournament Tuesday
night in the Student Recreation Center. In previous years, the
competition was held at the Trowbridge Arena.
"Last
year it was at Trowbridge, which is more of a rural setting, with
the dirt floor and only two nets," Ag Week Steering Committee
member Jared VerDught said. "It [the location] was a logistics
issue. And we really need more courts than these [those at the
Recreation center]."
Some
participants also said the new location was an improvement.
"It's
better than last year," Kevin Lesczynski, Pre-Vet club team
member, said.
"The
setup is better because it's actually at the Rec Center. I think
a lot more clubs are involved."
The tournament
took place on three courts with many teams waiting for their turns,
especially at the beginning of the tournament.
"I came
here to play some volleyball, and all we are doing is standing
around," Alpha Gamma Sigma team member Josh Jacomb said.
Others
saw the downtime as an opportunity to socialize.
"It's
a great way for all of us to get together," Marie Counts,
Mizzou FFA member, said. "We have a lot of fun, work
hard
and get really hot."

The rising
temperature
was a big topic of conversation, but participants said the heat
didn't spoil the evening.
"It's
hot," Collegiate Farm Bureau team member Kelly Boedeker said.
"Other than that, it's competitive and fun."
The double-elimination
tournament was sponsored by CAFNR Student Council. Nineteen teams
entered at a cost of $25 each. Each team was required to have
at least three women on the court at a time.
