ACT
receives national award
for outstanding year

26, 2002, RENO, Nev. - The MU Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow
(ACT) chapter returned home from the ACT national convention in
Reno, Nev. with the organization's highest honor - national Outstanding
Chapter of the Year.
MU ACT president Andrea Flynn, vice president Jacob Shellabarger,
secretary Ginger Berry, treasurer Scott Hopke, reporter Sara Brown
and advisor Marilyn Cummins attended the convention July 22-25
and accepted the award on behalf of their chapter.
MU ACT is the
third chapter to be honored as Outstanding Chapter of the Year.
Oklahoma State University received the award in 2000 and Texas
Tech won in 2001.

"This
goes to show what setting goals can do," Cummins said. "Our
members came back from last year's convention vowing to take the
top chapter award, and everyone worked together to make it happen.
Awesome."
The chapter
award
was one
of several highlights for
the MU attendees:
Shellabarger was elected national first vice-president
for the upcoming year.
Past
MU ACT president Kyle Durham, Tricia Falter, Rebecca McGovney
(a Stephens College student who participates in the MU ACT chapter)
and Ryan Squibb won 1st place in the newspaper, newsletter and
tabloid category and the "award of excellence" for publications
for their work on Momentum, a newspaper for CAFNR alumni.
Brown
and Shellabarger placed 3rd with their public relations campaign
for bringing the national agricultural radio show AgriTalk to
MU.
Casey
Buckman won 3rd place in the color photography category and Falter
placed 4th in the black-and-white photography category.
