Homecoming Spirit Fills the Air
By Jaclyn DeWeese, Corner Post staff

Thursday evening, Oct. 21, Jesse Hall filled with excitement and Mizzou Homecoming spirit as the Greek Community and past alums enjoyed the 2004 Homecoming Talent show.

Talent finals night arrived following an announcement on Wednesday at midnight that revealed the five homecoming pairings that had advanced from prelims held earlier in the week.

The talent portion of homecoming allows organizations the opportunity to be creative and display their talents in skits, dances, and in-between-acts. Students this year received the chance to showcase their theatrical and musical talents for the theme, Experience the Spotlight: A Mizzouzical.

The entertainment began with the National Anthem performed by John Hopkins, and a Homecoming production dance. Chuck Roberts, Homecoming Grand Marshall surprised the audience with a welcome to the Talent Finals, and thanked Mizzou for bringing him home. Skits and talent began with It’s a Tiger Life based on the musical Annie by the Alpha Delta Pi, Lambda Chi Alpha, and Alpha Phi Alpha homecoming pairing.

The judges were then introduced, and the audience was entertained by the women of Chi Omega with their in-between-act, Let’s Hear it for the Boys. The Kappa Alpha Theta, Alpha Gamma Rho, and Beta Sigma Psi then entertained the crowd with The Sound of Victory adapted from The Sound of Music. The crowd and alums enjoyed the surprise guest appearance of Don Faurot during The Sound of Victory.

Mizzou’s drumline provided the entertainment for the next in-between-act and was followed by an introduction to Mizzou’s top ten Homecoming Royalty finalists. As talent resumed, FarmHouse and Kappa Kappa Gamma, wowed the audience with their dancing talents in their skit, Bring Down the Goal Post Again, based on the Rocky Horror Picture Show.

The next in-between-act, Queen of Soul Medley was performed by Gamma Phi Beta, followed by Timone and Pumba go to White Campus from Delta Gamma and Delta Upsilon, recreated after The Lion King.

Tribute to Heroes, the final in-between-act performed by Kappa Alpha Theta brought the audience to their feet and found tears in many eyes, as the men and women serving our country were remembered. The talent show ended with Smells Like a Wednesday based after the Newsies from Alpha Phi and Phi Kappa Theta.

The Homecoming tradition began here at Mizzou and will continue as campus spirits remains high in hopes of a homecoming victory against Oklahoma State on Saturday.

Announcements on which organizations received honors for skit were at 4 p.m. Sunday at Jesse Hall.
