Lecture Presents Students
with an Introduction to Greek Government Whether for extra credit or extra insight, students filled Tate Hall Monday night. Dr. Mogens Herman Hansen, a world authority of Ancient Athenian Democracy, spoke on the similarities and differences between Athenian democracy and modern day democracy. She used examples such as The Declaration of Independence and The Gettysburg Address to illustrate today’s view of democracy and apply it to Athenian democracy. Students were able to ask questions at a reception held immediately following the lecture. Hansen will give three more lectures this week on Demography of
the Greek Polis. All three will be at 4 p.m. on October 12, 13 and
14. Admission is free and open to the public.
