Computer Spectrum Undergoes a Name Change
Kathleen McInerney, Corner Post Staff

On Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Computer Spectrum held an open house. Computer Spectrum, located in Brady Commons, has received a new name, Tiger Tech, to go along with all the new services it offers.

In years past, student computer services were all over campus. Students were able to purchase computers and software at the store, but had to go to the Outpost on Locust Street to get their computers worked on. This caused an inconvenience for students and staff and was also very cost inefficient.

Fortunately Computer Spectrum, now called Tiger Tech, has created a “one-stop store for students” said Michelle Froese, PR manager. Tiger Tech now incorporates all computing services into one location. Students can go to Tiger Tech for computer purchases and computer maintenance. This will make it “a lot easier for faculty, students and staff, having one place” said Froese.

The name Tiger Tech wasis used because the faculty felt as if the students were oblivious to the Computer Spectrum. Most students did not know where it was located, nor the services it had to offer. The new name pulls in the “true tiger feeling” of Brady.

Tiger Tech will now be “more cost effective” (who said this? It shouldn’t be in quote marks if it’s not attributed)for students and staff. The store has decided to only carry products that IAT services have been trained with. Parts of the staff are trained to use Macintosh, while other employees are trained forto use PCs. Tiger Tech is also working with different schools and the technology they recommend. The Journalism School has paved the way by recommending MacIntoshes to students. The store also helps incoming freshmen and their parents decide what computer is best for them, rather then to let them guess.

Michelle Froese seems confident that the new store will be “beneficial for students, staff and faculty.
