For the students, by the students
More
than the Ag Field in CAFNR
Katie Malloy, CAFNR Corner Post
There's more than just farmers in the College of Agriculture Food and Natural
Resources (CAFNR). Derrick Ming, a linebacker for the MU Tigers, is jumping onto
more than just the football field. Derrick has also taken a jump into the Agriculture
field.
The 242-pound. linebacker is proud to be a student in CAFNR, seeking
a degree in general agriculture. When Ming graduates, he plans on combining
his two passions
into a career… writing and sports. He enjoys taking agricultural journalism classes
to help his writing ability. Like every student, he has classes he likes such
as his agriculture classes, and ones he doesn't like political science.
College is tough enough without having to put in the added pressure of
more than five hours a day at the football field with Christmas as being
the only break.
Sound tough enough? Not only does he remain very "down to Earth", but also Ming
pulled off a grade point average of 3.5 last semester.
"It's an awesome feeling to walk onto the field with 60,000 fans cheering for
you. It's good to play," replied Derrick when asked what it was like to be part
of the MU Tiger football team.
Derrick is glad that he came to MU and says that the best advice he can
give
is simply,"Don't take things so seriously!" Derrick is a great example that agriculture
can be for everyone. Whether they bench 400 lbs. and squat 600 lbs. or not.
