For the students, by the students
Halloween,
Mizzou Style

October 21, 2003 - You may have already seen some people gearing up for the big
Halloween night by decorating their windows with cling-on decorations and orange
lights. And it seems like in every dorm room, someone offers some candy corn
or mini candy bars from a plastic pumpkin or paper sack. While some would argue
that Halloween is merely a children's holiday, it seems that college students
are enjoying the season as well.
Talking with several students around campus gained some interesting feedback.
"We are dressing up as schoolgirls and going to the haunted house at the Sigma
Alpha Epsilon house," said Ruthie Dietrich and Kate Meinhardt, freshman animal
science majors.
Bekah Emmons, junior business management major, said "I am going home
for that weekend but I'll probably be passing out candy on Halloween
night."
"I am dressing up and going partying with my sorority sisters," said Samantha
Hillstrom, freshman communications major.
As everyone knows, one of the biggest traditions of Halloween is to dress up
in a costume. Columbia has quite a variety of places to shop for outfits including
Wal-Mart, Goodwill and Gotcha!, a popular costume shop located downtown. You'll
find a wide range of costumes, wigs and other Halloween accessories at reasonable
prices.
There are several events going on across campus during the week of Halloween.
There will be pumpkin carving from 11:00 am until 6:00 pm on Wednesday in the
lower level of Brady Commons. "Halloween Spook-Tacular" is also going on at Memorial
Union at 8:00 on the night of Halloween.
