For the students, by the students
Ag
Week Barnwarming a Success

September
27, 2003- Ag Week ended on Friday night with the annual Barnwarming dance
held at the Midway Exposition Center located west of Columbia on I-70.
Buses started leaving Trowbridge Livestock Center around 8:30 p.m., following
the barbeque sponsored by Premium Standard Farms. The crowd was a little
slow as the first and second buses arrived at Midway. However, the party
picked up as more people arrived later in the evening. This year, Barnwarming
had a new twist. In the past, students paid a cover charge at the door
and they could drink all night.
This year, for the sake of insurance purposes, students had to buy a ticket to
get in the door and were given a cup. If they wanted to drink, they had to pay
for each cup at the bar. Soda was $1.00 and beer and hurricanes were $2.00. The
general consensus was that students preferred paying a flat fee and being able
to drink all night as in years past. However, older students didn't seem to mind
the cash bar method.
Around 11:00 p.m., Ag Week steering committee member, Ben Marshall, took the
microphone and introduced all of the king and queen candidates from each of the
CAFNR fraternities, sororities and organizations. The Independent Aggies took
first place in Skit Night and they also won the Spirit Award for Ag Week 2003.
Matt Hill was crowned king and the queen was Andrea Loyd. After the results were
announced, it was back to the music and dancing. The majority of the students
started clearing out between 11:30 and midnight. The last bus departed around
1:00. Barnwarming seemed to be a successful end to Ag Week 2003.
